Wan Si TANG (Ph.D.)

My background is on materials chemistry, specifically geared towards experimental inorganic synthesis and characterization techniques for novel functional materials, which have practical energy storage and conversion applications in solar energy, electrochemical cells, and hydrogen storage.


Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Carnegie Institution for Science, with Dr. Timothy A. Strobel in the Earth & Planets Laboratory (EPL), previously known as the Geophysical Laboratory (GL).

The present research deals with synthesizing metastable materials using molecular precursor-based pathways through the high-pressure diamond anvil cell (DAC) technique: topochemical polymerization of unsaturated hydrocarbons tuned under gigaPascal (GPa) pressures afforded organic semi-conductors with energetic and solar cell photocatalytic applications.
